Arnold Kurtz MBA and BS, Temple University Arnold Kurtz passed away on June 18, 2004. Until recently before his death, he was Vice President and Chief Technology Officer at The Penn Mutual Life Insurance Company. Arnold had the overall responsibility for the company’s IT strategy and operations to ensure its continuing ability to leverage technology in tandem with Penn Mutual’s business strategy and other strategic corporate objectives. Arnold joined Penn Mutual in July 1997 as director of Distributed Computing. He was promoted to AVP, Technology Strategy and e-Business in May 1999 and to VP/CTO in May 2000. Arnold played a key role in upgrading Penn Mutual’s data and voice networking infrastructure and improving the company’s operational processes. In addition, Arnold was a key resource in developing Penn Mutual’s technology and e-business/Internet strategies. Prior to joining Penn Mutual, Arnold spent 16 years with CIGNA Corporation. His career there began as an internal consultant focusing on fourth generation languages and other programmer productivity tools. Over the course of his career he held a number of IT leadership positions; most recently before leaving he was the IT leader of CIGNA’s Japan Life and International Healthcare divisions. Arnold holds BS and MBA degrees from Temple University. He was an adjunct member of Drexel University’s MIS faculty for several years. In 2000, Arnold joined the MIS department at the Fox School of Business and Management, Temple University to work as a part-time professor and was also appointed a fellow of the Institute for Business and Information Technology. On May 3rd, 2004 Arnold was honored with the Part-Time Teacher of the Semester Award for Fall 2003, and also received the newly created Institute for Business and Information Technology Service Award for 2004. Arnold loved teaching
and students. His friends, colleagues, and family are proud to create this
