{"id":3376,"date":"2018-09-24T11:42:41","date_gmt":"2018-09-24T15:42:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ibit.temple.edu\/analytics\/?p=3376"},"modified":"2019-10-05T09:19:02","modified_gmt":"2019-10-05T13:19:02","slug":"guidelines-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ibit.temple.edu\/analytics\/guidelines-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Guidelines"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-1971 alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/ibit.temple.edu\/analytics\/files\/2016\/09\/ios7-paper-150x150.png\" alt=\"ios7-paper\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ibit.temple.edu\/analytics\/files\/2016\/09\/ios7-paper-150x150.png 150w, https:\/\/ibit.temple.edu\/analytics\/files\/2016\/09\/ios7-paper-300x300.png 300w, https:\/\/ibit.temple.edu\/analytics\/files\/2016\/09\/ios7-paper.png 512w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/p>\n<h4>Participation<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Any student currently enrolled at Temple University can participate.\n<ul>\n<li>PhD students may not enter.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Work individually or in teams.<\/li>\n<li>No registration required.<\/li>\n<li>Start your analysis with the first question and add at least one more of the remaining questions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>What you can use<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Any software tool.<\/li>\n<li>Workshops\u00a0and mentoring\u00a0are offered throughout\u00a0October.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>What you should submit<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>The story: A graphic\u00a0that reflects the major findings of your data analysis.\n<ul>\n<li>It must be a static image<\/li>\n<li>No interactive content will be accepted (such as JavaScript or videos).<\/li>\n<li>It can be in the form of charts, diagrams, or an infographic.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>The background: A brief description, one single-spaced\u00a0page or less, describing what&#8217;s great about your analysis and your graphic.\n<ul>\n<li>Highlight how your analysis helped you arrive at your conclusions.<\/li>\n<li>Highlight how your graphic illustrates your key findings.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>How you should submit<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>Fill out the <span style=\"color: #3366ff\"><a style=\"color: #3366ff\" href=\"http:\/\/ibit.temple.edu\/analytics\/submission\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">submission form<\/a><\/span> by 11:59PM EST on October 31, 2019.<\/li>\n<li>Name the graphic and the description files with a team member&#8217;s name (i.e. smithjohngraphic AND smithjohnsummary).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The following must be clearly displayed on the graphic AND on the one page-description: each team member&#8217;s name with their <strong>COLLEGE<\/strong>, and their AccessNet ID (i.e. tuz12345).<\/li>\n<li>Convert static graphics to PDF format. The one-page description must also be in PDF format. There are free tools that do this, such as <span style=\"color: #3366ff\"><a style=\"color: #3366ff\" href=\"http:\/\/sourceforge.net\/projects\/pdfcreator\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">PDF Creator<\/a>.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>What happens after you submit<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>You will receive a confirmation email acknowledging your entry.<\/li>\n<li>Finalists will be notified by email by November 7, 2019.<\/li>\n<li>Finalists will present their work in front of the judging panel on November 12, 2019.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Your entry will be disqualified\u00a0if&#8230;<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>It is submitted after the deadline.<\/li>\n<li>The attachments won&#8217;t open or are in the wrong file format.<\/li>\n<li>You submitted a video or an interactive graphic.<\/li>\n<li>Team member names and their AccessNet IDs are not on both the graphic and the description.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>How entries will be evaluated<\/h4>\n<p>All entries will be evaluated by the judges in two categories: visualization and analysis.\u00a0Prizes will be awarded for each category separately and an entry can only win in a single\u00a0category.<\/p>\n<p>The specific criteria for each category are:<\/p>\n<p>Graphic<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Clarity (how well the graphic stands on its own without additional explanation)<\/li>\n<li>Novelty\/creativity (originality of thought; surprising way of approaching the data)<\/li>\n<li>Insight (graphic\u00a0aids understanding of the data)<\/li>\n<li>Utility (ability of the graphic\u00a0to aid decision making)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Analysis<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Relevance (analysis relates to the problem statement)<\/li>\n<li>Completeness (degree to which the analysis answers the stated question)<\/li>\n<li>Depth (sophistication of the analysis)<\/li>\n<li>Consistency (conclusions consistent with the analysis)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center\">Questions?
