Greenwood and Sunil Wattal<\/h3>\n<h4>Temple University<\/h4>\n<p>January 2016<\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\">The introduction of ride-sharing platforms such as Uber and Lyft have dramatically transformed the traditional licensed livery industry. However, their entry has not been without major controversy and debate on proper legal oversight, the impact on consumer safety, and overall benefit to the larger society. This IBIT report examines this tradeoff by first exploring the growth of the \u201csharing economy,\u201d its benefits, and as its perceived threats to existing business models.
