Why an AI Build Challenge?
Every part of Temple has problems that slow people down. A student can’t find the right office. An instructor spends hours on feedback that a better tool could support. A research lab loses time to manual data work. Today’s AI tools can help with many of these problems, and the people closest to them often know them best.
The Temple AI Build Challenge brings these problems together with student teams from across the university. In ten days, teams learn to build with modern AI tools, work across disciplines, and create prototypes that address real needs.
Practical AI skills
Students from every school and college learn to plan and build with AI, whatever their coding background.
Solutions to real problems
Teams work on needs that Temple students, faculty, staff, and units bring to the challenge.
A path to deployment
The best ideas don’t stop at demo day. IBIT supports selected projects on their way to real use on campus.
Who’s Behind It
A committee of faculty and staff from the Fox School of Business, Temple University Libraries, Klein College of Media and Communication, and College of Public Health organizes the challenge. Meet the team.
The Institute for Business and Information Technology (IBIT) sponsors the event. The DS-AI@Temple Network and the Loretta C. Duckworth Scholars Studio are our partners. See our sponsors and partners.
Faculty and Staff can Get Involved
The challenge depends on people across Temple and beyond. Here is how you can help.
Serve as a judge
Evaluate team presentations at demo day on Friday, November 6, in Alter Hall. Let us know you’re interested.
Mentor teams
Hold office hours during the build days and help teams frame problems, make design and technical choices, and think through responsible AI. Volunteer as a mentor.
Submit a problem
Share a recurring problem or unmet need at Temple that a student team could tackle. Add it to the Problem Bank.
Become a sponsor
Support prizes, provide tools and resources, or help promising projects continue after the challenge. Contact us about sponsorship.
