The goal is to discuss the variety of mobile and wireless applications that are available and to help the audience understand the hype and reality of “M-Commerce”. We would like to understand what are the newest applications and why the ones that have already been tried have not been adopted to the level initially anticipated. The topics covered the full range of applications with examples of what the various panel members viewed as offering very real value for the enterprise today. The topics ranged from examples of successes and failures in the wireless/mobile world, definitions and examples of M-Commerce, WAP and future phone technologies, VoiceXML and SALT as a replacement for proprietary IVR systems, development tools for multiple platforms, Tablet PC, the Wireless LAN alphabet of the 802.11 world, bluetooth realities, GPS technology value, Phones and Fleet tracking, RFID and Barcode technology in the warehouse and supply chain, and the real speeds and rollout timeframes for 2.5G and 3G wireless data. Of course, we also discussed security and finally, how these devices will change our business and personal lifestyles in the future.
