The Business Value of Big Data: Potential, Reality, and Success Stories – September 27, 2012

Temple University is organizing a conference in fall 2012 titled “The Business Value of Big Data: Potential, Reality, and Success Stories.” The conference will engage industry and academic experts to discuss (a) the potential of big data and the controversies related to its definition and value, and (b) best practices and exemplars for applying big data to transform how we view the world around us. For example:

  • Fraud detection: Analyzing structured and textual data to detect patterns of fraud
  • Customer trends: Integrating enterprise and social data to identify customer behavior patterns and new sales opportunities
  • Safety and compliance: Analyzing archived product use data to identify threats to safety and ways to encourage compliance
  • Media impact: Modeling the effects of new and traditional media on tangible outcomes

The conference is being organized by Temple’s Institute for Business and Information Technology (IBIT) and its partners including LiquidHub and Merck. The conference committee includes faculty from the Fox School of Business and senior corporate executives from LiquidHub, Merck, Pfizer, Accenture, and Transaction Network Services.
