INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY INNOVATOR AWARD
Matthew Pittinsky has been an active leader in the field of e-learning. He has been instumental in growing Blackboard into a company with 1,900 client institutions, 415 employees, and over $100 million in investments. Industry analysts recognize Blackboard as the leading provider of e-education software infrastructure in the world.
He has served on numerous panels and presented at industry conferences for organizations such as EDUCAUSE, Harvard Business School, and the Software Publishers Association.
Most recently, he was awarded “Visionary of the Year” by the Northern Virginia Technology Council (2001). Other awards include: “Top Under-30 Technology Executives” by Washington Techway magazine (2000); “Entrepreneurs of the Year for Emerging Companies in Washington, D.C.” (with co-founder Michael Chasen) by Ernst & Young (2000); and “Young Innovators” by the Kilby Awards Foundation, a distinction shared with other Kilby laureates, such as Vint Cerf, Marc Andreesen and Linus Torvalds.
He is the editor of the forthcoming book The Wired Tower to be published by Prentice-Hall Financial Times. He serves on the advisory boards of SMARTHINKING and Syllabus2000, and serves on the board of American Universiy and Northern Virginia Technology Council.
